What is Germination?

A popular concept that is recognized in coaching is known as seed planting. Seed planting refers to taking time for brand new suggestions and ideas to be embraced. Some clients take complete hold of brand new ideas and just run with them; while other people take a bit more time to let ideas grow and the rest may take whole years before their ideas even start to sprout.

Then there are those who never even grasp an idea whatsoever. Simply put, it will merely stay undeveloped. What clients do with these ideas really doesn’t matter. The goal is primarily to plant seeds, and then allow clients to do whatever they want. At times, ideas simply need some time to fully germinate.

Some counselors believe that not making decisions is actually a decision in itself. They say that not choosing is actually a choice. This might sound crazy. However, I have already found myself within such a situation – where I avoided making decisions.

This seed might take years to germinate within your brain but one day it will sprout and fully grow into an understandable concept. Sometimes, people aren’t able to hear things beforehand; however, with enough time, people can evolve enough to make sense out of new concepts. Brand new ideas might take some time to get fully used to. Whenever you hear an idea for the first time, you might not be prepared to hear it and that’s alright. Whenever you are prepared, this idea will end up sprouting and growing to be fully there for you.

The flip side would be to avoid forcing suggestions and ideas onto others. You can share them; but that is all you should do. Seed planting should never be aggressive; it is meant to be gentle and should therefore be done with compassion and love. The only thing that can be done is planting the idea. Whatever ends up happening to it will be up to the person and what they would be prepared to hear within that time. This idea might not instantly sprout and it might even take several years. This should not concern you. Your only job would be to plant seeds and then move on.

Everybody finds themselves at various places in life. Sometimes, you might instantly understand a new idea and maybe even take some sort of action. Sometimes, it might take some time. Do not worry if you don’t understand something instantly. It simply means there is germination within the idea. Whenever you are prepared, this idea will end up sprouting and growing to support you. Do not worry until then and just continue with ideas you are prepared for. A lot of ideas will come about with seeds sprouting every now and then to make sure you are kept busy.
