“How to Make Hard Decisions in Life”
While these small decisions may seem trivial to an observer, they can color a person’s whole life. The type of decisions you make and the speed at which you make them are very important factors in how your life develops and grows. If someone is afraid to decide anything, then they will not grow and be successful, possibly in the same ways they want to be. They see their colleagues and friends doing well all around them and being promoted into higher positions. However, they feel resentful and they don’t understand why this is the case. In examining this a little closer, we see that if someone has problems deciding between jam or honey for breakfast, then imagine what they must be like with these big decisions! What if they work for a big company and must make decisions on a daily basis? It is possible that they could come to a complete stop and not be able to think clearly at all. This indecision in many people’s lives is all about fear. Many people are scared of making the wrong decisions for fear of being wrong, or because they do not want to appear foolish in front of their peers and colleagues. Many shy people are like this because they lack the confidence to know that others will not be judging them in the choices they make. In learning to make decisions, it is very important not to be afraid. So what if you make the wrong decision? Before deciding anything, it might help if you consciously sit down and picture yourself making that decision. Now, what will happen if you make the right decision? That’s right – victory, glory, general happiness all around for everyone concerned. Now, what will happen if that decision is the wrong one? Will the world stop spinning on its axis and come to a halt? Of course not, so ahead and make the decision you feel comfortable with. If you read the biographies of famous people, you will know that the most successful in life blunder around trying this thing and that and getting it wrong nine times out of ten. But that one golden time that they make the right decision and everything works for them is the time that makes them winners. It is true that some decisions are extremely important and need careful consideration. For example, if lives are at stake, or if millions of dollars will be won or lost, then it might be a good idea to involve several people and get more than one opinion on the matter. Committees and consultants who specialize in decision making in their professional lives can be called in to solve the problem. But even these enormous decisions and choices should not be crippling. If you have adequate coping strategies in place, then even these decisions should be arrived at with the minimum of fuss and bother.
